Tips for Photographing Your Artwork

  • Find good natural light: stand near a large window on a bright but overcast day. Avoid direct sunlight.
  • Lay the artwork flat or hang it on a plain wall: a white or neutral wall works best.
  • Hold your phone level: directly above (if flat) or straight in front of (if hung) the artwork.
  • Fill the frame: get close enough that the artwork fills most of the image.
  • Keep it steady: rest your elbows on a surface to reduce camera shake.
  • Turn off the flash. Always.
  • Photograph before framing where possible. Glass creates reflections and glare that are difficult to avoid.

iPhone: Go to Settings > Camera > Formats and select "Most Compatible" for maximum quality.

Android: Open Camera > Settings and choose the largest photo resolution.

  • Send the original photo from your camera roll
  • Use natural daylight near a window
  • Take your time and check the photo is sharp
  • Sending via WhatsApp or Messenger - they compress quality
  • Using screenshots from Instagram or websites
  • Cropping, filtering or editing the images
